Independent project / Product design and implementation

Seniority made visible. Evidence made usable.

An end-to-end redesign aligning positioning, case-study evidence, identity, responsive interaction and implementation around a clear senior product-design proposition.

Connected redesign

The portfolio had to work as one product, not a collection of pages.

Positioning, evidence, visual expression and implementation were treated as dependent parts of the same system. Improving one without the others would preserve the original ambiguity.

POSITIONING

Clarify the signal

Make seniority, specialism and value legible to employers, design leaders and potential clients.

EVIDENCE

Structure the proof

Organise projects around problems, roles, decisions, delivery and the boundary of what evidence supports.

EXPRESSION

Build visual authority

Use a distinctive draughtsman language, disciplined typography and material hierarchy without obscuring content.

IMPLEMENTATION

Preserve the decisions

Translate approved design into reusable tokens, components, semantic routes and parity checks.

Baseline gap

Capable work was present. The senior signal was not.

The redesign problem was not simply visual age. The previous experience made breadth easier to see than judgement, evidence quality or the relationship between design and delivery.

BEFORE Work without a clear assessment path Broad capability / weak prioritisation / limited evidence structure
AFTER A proposition supported by inspectable decisions Role clarity / case evidence / coherent identity / maintained implementation

Strategic spine

Treat the portfolio as a product.

Each stage resolved a different source of ambiguity while preserving a traceable route from evidence to interface.

  1. 01

    Audit and audiences

Assess the existing experience, define who needs to make a decision and identify the signals that decision depends on.

Baseline / employers / design leaders / clients
  2. 02

    Content and information architecture

Prioritise the proposition, select case-study evidence and create routes that support both rapid scanning and deeper inspection.

Positioning / content model / case structure / navigation
  3. 03

    Design authority

Move from approved foundations through rendered direction, focused refinements and reusable component contracts.

    Identity / typography / materials / motion / approval
  4. 04

    Implementation and validation

Build semantic static routes, preserve approved evidence and verify responsive behaviour, accessibility boundaries and production parity.

    Components / tokens / source / build / parity

Decision continuity

One chain connected strategy to code.

DISCOVERY EVIDENCE DESIGN IMPLEMENTATION VALIDATION

Evidence register

Four inspectable records hold the redesign together.

The page does not present process as a decorative timeline. Each record identifies the decision authority and the artefact that carries it forward.

STRATEGY What the portfolio must communicate

Audience priorities, positioning, success measures and evidence requirements define the product problem.

Authority: discovery and approved project goals
CONTENT What must be understandable and provable

The content model distinguishes proposition, project evidence, role, decisions, delivery and verified outcomes.

Authority: evidence synthesis and editorial decisions
DESIGN What the experience should feel like

Rendered direction, focused refinement and explicit approval establish the visual and interaction authority.

Authority: design.md and frozen review evidence
ENGINEERING How approved decisions survive implementation

Tokens, components, generation rules and parity tests prevent approved design from dissolving between stages.

Authority: maintained source, build output and validation records

Implemented evidence

A reusable foundation, with outcomes still to measure.

09 Case-study routes Enterprise products, systems, websites, identity and independent work
03 Primary audiences Employers and recruiters / product and design leaders / potential clients
BUILD Tokenised static implementation Reusable components, responsive behaviour and production parity checks

Evidence boundary

The redesign, routes and validation package are implemented.

Positioning comprehension, qualified enquiries, accessibility performance and commercial effect require post-launch evaluation. No improvement in those outcomes is claimed yet.

Decision register

Three choices protected the proposition.

The strongest decisions reduced noise, connected evidence and made the implementation accountable to the approved design.

  1. 01 Make proof more important than inventory.

Technology and capability remain visible, but case evidence and decision quality carry the senior proposition.

  2. 02 Use one coherent material language.

Ink, Carbon, Ivory, Brass and Steel create continuity across project types without turning every section into a card.

  3. 03 Keep the site maintainable.

A progressively enhanced static build, reusable routes and parity locks preserve clarity without unnecessary platform complexity.
